According to a Newsday report, the child's mother Precious Virginia Bastaldo, 18, recalled her son vomiting on Friday afternoon. Bastaldo noticed her son was unresponsive and was having difficulty breathing. The three, immediately went to the Chaguanas Health Facility.
“In the car, Antonio (Jacob) looked at me and said, ‘mommy’ and I said ‘yes baby’, and that was his last words,” Bastaldo recounting her last moments with her son. The police report stated that upon arrival at the health facility, doctors pronounced Jacob dead.
According to Mayo Clinic, head trauma is very common in infants and toddlers children. The difficulty in diagnosing a concussion, is because young children may be unable to describe how they feel. This means that caretakers must look for nonverbal symptoms.
